Tanga Club

Established in 2019, Tanga Family Network provides inclusive, SEND-friendly activities for children, young people and their families, alongside support for parents and carers. All activities are open to SEND and non-SEND children, helping families feel less isolated through peer support, advice and a welcoming community. We offer clubs, woodland sessions, support groups, retreat days, weekends away, activities for children educated other than at school, and guidance on education, health, social care and benefits. Over 75% of our team have lived experience of parenting children with additional needs. Based in Hexham, we support families across the region and beyond, with no diagnosis, referral, membership fee or geographical restrictions. Our name comes from the Māori word "Takiwatanga", meaning "in their own space and time"— this is our ethos of acceptance, inclusion and no pressure to participate.
